George William Colbert

George William Colbert, 96, of Shepherdstown, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at Somerford House in Hagerstown, Maryland.

Born November 18, 1918 in Shepherdstown, he was the son of the late Adam Eugene and Katie Sowers Billmyer Colbert.

He was a 1937 graduate of Shepherdstown High School.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II, proudly serving in the 3rd Army under General George Patton.

He was a member of Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church and also served as an elder.

He is survived by one son, Kelly L. Colbert and wife, Jill of Hagerstown; daughter-in-law, Nancy Colbert of Shepherdstown; 10 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Keller Colbert; two sons, Richard Greg Colbert and Kyle E. Colbert; one brother, Robert Billmyer; and one sister, Lillian Billmyer Langly.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 26, at 1 p.m. at Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Randall Tremba. Private interment will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

Reception will follow service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church, PO Box 268, Shepherdstown, WV 25443.
