Peggy Burt White

Jun 15, 2015

Peggy Burt White passed away peacefully at her home in Falling Waters, on May 31, 2015, at the age of 90.

She was born March 17, 1925, to Lester Earl Burt and Ivie Hoggan Burt and had wonderful memories of growing up in Rigby, Idaho, with her siblings Kenneth, Margaret and Gordon.

Peggy attended the University of Idaho at a time when most of the men were off to war. In 1947, she married Robert Merrill White and moved east with him to Pennington, New Jersey, where they shared 38 wonderful years together until his passing. She subsequently moved to West Virginia to enjoy time with her grandchildren, David Logan and Annalia.

Peggy lived through the Great Depression, and like many others of her generation, developed a strong work ethic and desire to help others. To the delight of passersby she loved and tended her beautiful gardens, adored the neighborhood children and pets whom she welcomed into her home, sewed beautifully, enjoyed classical music and was a prolific reader. She highly valued education and helped fund the college education of three girls in the family. She volunteered as a Girl Scout leader when her daughter was young and for decades in the Pennington Public Library.

She will be remembered as a loving, gentle and generous woman by her daughter, Susan White Glenn and husband, Michael, of Shepherdstown; her grandson, David Logan Glenn, of Shepherdstown; her granddaughter, Annalia Glenn Michelman and husband, Adam, of Chicago, Illinois; and brother, Gordon F. Burt and wife, Shirley, of Idaho Falls, Idaho. In addition, she will be missed by her several nieces, nephews, neighbors and her cat, Cleo.

The family wishes to thank Peggy’s many caregivers, relatives and friends for their care and comfort. Memorial donation, if desired, may be made to one’s local library in her name or to a favorite charity.
