Alice Amanda Carey
Alice Amanda Carey, also known as Alley Cat, 72, of Martinsburg, quietly and peacefully departed this life on Thursday, June 4, 2015, at Hospice of the Eastern Panhandle In-Patient Facility at 2:11 a.m.
She was born April 4, 1943, in Martinsburg to the late Edmond and Lena Amanda Carey.
Alice was a graduate of Page Jackson High School. She went to stay with her aunt and uncle in New York until returning home. She was a people greeter for Walmart before retiring in 2013.
She is survived by two daughters, Velma Louise Carey, of Texas and Alice Regina Mitchell and husband, Sidney Mitchell, of Martinsburg; five grandchildren, Sheena Carey, of Martinsburg, Bryan Dyer, of Martinsburg, LaKeisha Dyer, of Florida, Malik Harpe, of Texas and Dante’ Harpe, of Texas; and one great-grandson, Aden Logan, of Florida. She is also survived by seven sisters, Laura Jean Boyd, of Charles Town, Thelma W. Winston, of Martinsburg, Linda Gail Williams, of Shepherdstown, Lena Mary Williams, of Martinsburg, Helen L. Care, of Martinsburg, Virginia R. Taylor-Johnson, of Washington, D.C., and Mary Katherine Johnson, of Martinsburg; one brother, Charles Lee Carey, of Martinsburg; and three brothers-in-law, John Johnson and James Winston, and Lloyd Williams. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews cousins and a host of friends, who played very important roles in her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, John Day, Robert Lee Carey and Daniel Carey.
Homegoing service were celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 13, at Brown Funeral Home with Elder Johnny Price officiating. Interment was private.
