Martin Walter Swope
Martin Walter Swope, 85, of Shepherdstown, passed away Monday, July 13, 2015, at Berkeley Medical Center.
Born April 23, 1930, in Shepherdstown, he was the son of the late Walter Martin and Ruth Lee Breeden Swope.
He was a retired brick mason with East Alcoa Aluminum. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a member of the U.S. Marine Corps League, where he served on the Honor Guard.
He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
He was devoted to his family and his church.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Marie Rodgers Swope; one son, Rick Lee Swope and wife, Pamela Sue; one daughter, Melody Ann Swope; two grandchildren, Corey Lee Swope and wife, Cyndi and Amelia Elizabeth Swope; one great-grandchild, Lilly Swope; two brothers, Reuben and Charles Swope; and one sister, Lena Swope Grimm.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Swope.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Shepherdstown with Pastor Karen Erskine-Valentine officiating.
