John Casey Cordell

John Casey Cordell, 61, of Martinsburg, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015.

Born May 2, 1954, in Martinsburg, he is the son of Anthony Cordell and the late Frances Brophy Cordell.

Casey was a 1972 graduate of Martinsburg High School, where he was an outstanding athelete; graduate of Hagerstown Community College, where he earned his Associate Business degree. Casey began his Bachelor’s degree studies at WVU and completed his degree work at Shepherd College.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and Sons of Italy. He was also a member of Moose Lodge No. 120.

Mr. Cordell was retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad with more than three decades of service, and a substitute teacher with the Berkeley County Schools for 15 years.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Christy Fitzwater Cordell; daughters, Courtney Cordell and Tiffany Swan (Chris); son, Jamie Conner (Tinna); six grandchildren, Kelsea, Hayley, Peyton, Madison, Avery, and Braylon; siblings, Chris Cordell (Sheen), Clay Cordell (Missy), Beth McGowan, Joe Cordell (Betsy) and Patti Lord; numerous nieces and nephews; and beloved furry companions, Cooper and Oreo.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Luigi Cordelli and Rosa Cordelli; maternal grandparents, Helen and Joe Brophy; and brother-in-law, Thomas Lord.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, 2015, at Brown Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Eric Hall celebrant. Interment prayers were said at Old Norborne Cemetery.
