Charles Hamilton Horner III
Charles Hamilton Horner III, 73, of Martinsburg, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 26, 2016, at Berkeley Medical Center.
Born Nov. 30, 1942, in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Charles and Margaret Lemon Horner Jr.
He was a 1960 graduate from Martinsburg High School and attended Shepherd College.
He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1961 and after basic training worked for NSA in the Philippines. He joined the Air Guard in 1965 and became a flight engineer on a C-121C. He also flew a C-121EC for Middletown, Pennsylvania and returned to Martinsburg Air National Guard and flew a C-130. He transferred to Dover Air Force reserve and flew a C-5A-B and retired after the first Gulf War in 1992.
In 1965, he was hired at Mac Truck and retired in 1998.
He was a member of the Martinsburg Lions Club; Elks Lodge 778; American Legion in Williamsport, Maryland; Moose Lodge 120; and was a VA deputy representative. He served on the board of the Isaac Walton League and served as commander of VFW Post 896.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Horner; his children, Elizabeth Barnhart and her husband, Randy, Annette Cooper and her husband, Marshall, Jack Horner, and Will Horner; one stepdaughter, Pam Judy and her husband, Rex; his grandchildren, Justin Williams, Ryan Rowland, Dakotah Horner, Madison Horner, Ronald Osti Helsley, Scottie Helsley, Marcia Wood, Kresha Hornby, Danny Baker, Dale Robinson, Andrea Dodson, Sierra Harley, and Kayla Harley; many great-grand- children; and one great-great-granddaughter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four stepdaughters, Susan Cornwell, Michelle Robinson, Natalie Harley, and Cynthia Harley.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Rosedale Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Rosedale Cemetery.
