Phyllis Gaines Creamer,

Phyllis Gaines Creamer, 86, of Ranson, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016, at Hospice of the Panhandle Inpatient Facility, Kearneysville. She was the widow of her second husband, Allen Gaines.

Born March 2, 1929, in Shepherdstown, she was the daughter of the late John Henry Gray and Sallie Dora Virginia Johnson.

Mrs. Creamer retired after 30 years in the Mutual Department at the Charles Town and Shenandoah Downs Race Tracks. She had a private beautician business, having worked for the Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home for a number of years.

She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church of Charles Town, and attended Asbury United Methodist Church of Shepherdstown.

She attended Page Jackson High School, Charles Town.

She volunteered with the School of Hope.

She is survived by her first husband, James N. Creamer, at home; two sons, Larry R. Creamer and wife, Sharon, of Lexington, Virginia, and Melvin S. Creamer and wife, Patrice, of Manhattan, New York; daughter, Diane Adams and husband, Phillip, of Martinsburg; grandchildren, Alidra Creamer, Melba Berry, Reggie Creamer, John Berry and wife, Adma, Efren Creamer and wife, Meghan, Sharon Tolley and husband, Travis, and Elissa Creamer; one brother, John Washington of West Haven, Connecticut; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, M. Geraldine Hunter and Frances L. Thomas.

Services were held 11 a.m. Monday. Feb. 8, at Asbury United Methodist Church, Route 480, Shepherdstown, with the Rev. Rudolph Bropleh and the Rev. Charles W. Hunter Jr. officiating. Interment was at Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.

Arrangements are by Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town.
