Donald J. Thompson

Donald J. Thompson, 81, of Winchester, Virginia, died Thursday, March 10, 2016, at his residence under the care of Hospice.

Born Nov. 10, 1934, in Harpers Ferry, he was the son of Joseph Thompson and Jessie (Dillow) Thompson.

Mr. Thompson retired in 1985, after 30 years of service in the U.S. Air Force, receiving the rank of chief master sergeant. He served during Vietnam.

He was of the Methodist faith.

Donald was a graduate of Harpers Ferry High School and attended Shepherd College for two years.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Laura Lee (Mason) Thompson, at home; sons, Christopher J. Thompson and wife, Donna, of Linden, Virginia and Barry Scott Thompson, of Winchester; and stepbrother, Charles Merle Brown.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Alma M. Brown and Peggy Hereck.

A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 16, at Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town, with Dr. Henry Christie officiating.

Arrangements were by Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town.
