Gardner William Pierce, Jr.
Gardner William Pierce, Jr., known as Bill, beloved husband of Jane Evangeline Pierce, and father to Allen Thomas Pierce, was born May 25, 1924, in Martinsburg, died Friday, March 18, 2016.
Bill graduated from Martinsburg High School, where he was a star football player.
Bill joined the Marines and fought in the South Pacific campaign during World War II, and upon return married the love of his life, Jane in 1945. He graduated Shepherd College (now Shepherd University) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in 1952. They lived most of their married years in Fairfax, Virginia, and then moved to Winchester, Virginia, where he died at the age of 91 at Village of Orchard Ridge.
Bill who is survived by his wife Jane, his son Allen and daughter-in-law, Rose, has four grandchildren, Michael Pierce, Scott Pierce, Lisa Rector and Robert Tichi, along with nine great- grandchildren.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, at Bethel Lutheran Church, 2077 North Frederick Pike, Winchester, with a luncheon following the service.
Family and friends were invited to attend a burial service in Rosedale Cemetery, 917 Cemetery Road, Martinsburg at 3 p.m. following the luncheon.
In lieu of flowers, Jane and the family ask that donations be made to Blue Ridge Hospice to ensure that their ability to help those, who, during their end of life, receive the same loving incredible care provided to Bill and to our family.
