Earl Garbison Wean Jr.
Earl Garbison Wean Jr., 74, of Shepherdstown, passed away peacefully March 23, 2016, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
Born Jan. 19, 1942, in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Elma Foley Wean and Earl G. Wean Sr.
He served in the U.S. Air Force and Air Guard for over 19 years participating in several campaigns including Vietnam. After leaving the military, he was a partner in Wean Insurance Agency and then branched into real estate and home construction.
He was a 2004 graduate of Shepherd University.
He was an active member of Pleasant View Church of the Brethren, where he has served as chairman of the Board, Sunday School teacher and currently chairman of the Deacons. He sang in the choir.
He was a member of the Pythians, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Isaac Walton.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 1/2 years, Joan Franklin Propps Wean, at home; daughters, Gaye Lynne Conrad and husband, Jim, of Leesburg, Virginia, Shawna M. Wean, of Shepherdstown and Lisa C. Propps, of Tampa, Florida; sons, Todd W. Wean and wife, Michele, of Virginia Beach, Virginia and David M. Propps and wife, Jennifer, of Inwood; grandchildren, Blayne and Daegan Conrad, Logan and Madison Wean and Sierra and Lakin Propps; sisters, Dorothy G. Sullivan, of Martinsburg, Brenda K. Hamby, of Ranson and Sandra S. Giffin, of Harpers Ferry; brothers, Donald R. Wean, of Martinsburg, David W. “Bill” Wean, of Ranson and Steven A. Wean Sr., of Harrisonburg, Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Smith
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, 310 South Fairfax Blvd., Ranson.
Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at Pleasant View Church of the Brethren, Jefferson, Maryland with viewing from 10 a.m. until time of service. The Rev. Timothy May will officiate.
Burial will be in Pleasant View Church Cemetery.
