Robert Gibson Starkey

Robert Gibson Starkey, 84, of Shepherdstown, WV passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at his residence.

Born December 26, 1931 in Cresaptown, MD, he was the son of the late Randall Starkey and Hallie Anderson Starkey.

He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and Mt. Zion Assembly of God, both in Charles Town, West Virginia, and H

he was a US Air Force veteran serving in the Korean War.

Bob was a graduate of Shepherd College, class of 1958 and received his Master’s Degree from West Virginia University. He had a coaching career spanning over 50 years. He taught and coached at Weir High School in Weirton; Oak Glen High School at New Cumberland; Shepherd College from 1968-1988, followed by Loudoun County High School in Leesburg, VA; South Hagerstown High School and Jefferson High School.

He is survived by his loving wife of 11 years, Lynda Starkey, at home; one daughter, Sandie Grantham and husband, Gary of Shepherdstown, WV; one son, Randy Starkey of Davidson, NC; two stepchildren, Cheri Simpson and husband, Kyle and Christopher Cody and wife, Michelle; five grandchildren, Natalie Allen, Garrett Grantham, Ian Starkey, Stuart Starkey, and Carly Starkey, six step grandchildren, Haley, Hannah, Hope and Harper Simpson and Kristin and Sean Cody and sister-in-law, Phyllis Starkey of Fort Ashby, WV.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Greta Messick Starkey in 2001 and one brother, Randall “Skeets” Starkey.

Services were on Thursday at the Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry/Charles Town, WV with Pastor Duane Jensen officiating. Interment is in Elmwood Cemetery in Shepherdstown, WV.
