Charlotte Lee Dopson Rutherford

Charlotte Lee Dopson Rutherford, 86, of Harpers Ferry, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2016, at Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg.

Born May 10, 1929, in Harpers Ferry, she was the daughter of the late John William Dopson and Ruth Estelle Caniford Dopson.

She was a member of the Bakerton Church of God.

Charlotte was past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post #3522, past officer in the Moose Lodge #948, and a past officer in the American Legion #71, all of Charles Town. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Eagles #1136 in Brunswick, Maryland.

She is survived by her children, Dianne Smith of Boonsboro, Maryland, Shelley Davis and husband, Mike, of North Carolina, Portia Pewnew, and Mona Riedel and husband, Ray, of Arizona, and Stan Hawes and wife, Cheryl, of Charles Town; two brothers, John Dopson and wife, Beverly, of Shepherdstown, and Dan Dopson and wife, Nancy of Austin, Texas; stepdaughter, Patsy Kidwell; and a large number of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Robert Rutherford; daughter, Sharon Long; sister, Lucille Kidwiler Daffara; brothers, William and Don Dopson; stepdaughter, Tammy Webb; and stepsons, Jerry and Junior Clem.

Services were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, with Pastor Dan Fraley officiating.
