Wayne H. Dewease
Wayne H. Dewease, 59, of Shepherdstown, and formerly of Williamsport, Maryland, passed away Friday, May 13, 2016, at his home.
He was born May 31, 1956, in Hagerstown, Maryland, to the late H. Lance and Vivian M. Norris Dewease.
He was preceded in death by his previous wife, Nancy Arlene Hanks Dewease, on Nov. 15, 2003.
Wayne was a 1975 graduate of Williamsport High School. He was active in both football and baseball, leading Williamsport High School to the 1975 State Baseball Championship. He also attended Hagerstown Junior College.
He was employed by Maryland Correctional Institute in Hagerstown, until retiring in 1997.
He was a member of St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church, Williamsport.
He was a member of Conococheague Tribe No. 84 I.O.R.M. Williamsport; and was a past member of the Williamsport Rider’s Club.
Wayne was a huge fan of the Baltimore Orioles and a fan and proud shareholder of the Green Bay Packers. He loved to travel including Ocean City, Maryland; Kent Narrows, Maryland; Las Vegas; Mexico; the Caribbean; and Florida.
He is survived by his wife, Bette Leatherman Dewease, whom he married Sept. 26, 2013; stepdaughter, Jennifer M. Hess and her husband, Matthew D. Ruckle, of Martinsburg; sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy J. Smith, of Tilghmanton, Maryland, M. Jane Sirbaugh, Elvin W. Brining, of Sharpsburg, Maryland, Betty and Allen G. Leatherman Jr., of Tilghmanton, and Sharon and Donald Coulter, of Hagerstown; many nieces and nephews, including Dwayne Coulter and family, of Keedysville, Maryland, Scott Coulter and family, of Hagerstown, Robbie Huntzberry, of Tilghmanton, Joseph Nave and family, of Tilghmanton, Barbara Warrenfeltz and family, of Tilghmanton, and William “Bill” Smith, of Tilghmanton.
Also survived by very good friends, Shannon and Laura Showe, of Conway, South Carolina, G. Timothy Shaw, of Martinsburg, Kathy and Rick Larrick, of Martinsburg, Steve and Nancy Waitkus, of Sebring, Florida, Randy Duke and Michele Davis, of Martinsburg, Michele Blanco, of Sandy Hook, Connecticut, Donnie and Christy Hughes, of Hedgesville, Ronnie and Robin Brown, of Williamsport and Tim Fraker, of Hagerstown, the staff and physicians of Martinsburg Radiology Associates, and his faithful and beloved cat, “Vegas” whom remained by his side until the end.
He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Rodney L. Leatherman; niece, Donna M. Huntzberry; nephew, Michael W. Smith; and two very good friends, Vickie L. Nisewarner and F. Calvin Leatherman.
There will be no viewing.
A celebration of life service and interment will be held privately at a later date.
