Robert Marshall Mattei

Jun 10, 2016

Robert Marshall Mattei, 68, of Woodbridge, Virginia, went to be with his Lord on Monday, June 6, 2016, at Inova Fairfax Hospital. Born Feb. 24, 1948, in Manhattan, New York, he was the son of the late Roger T. Mattei and Nellie Payne Mattei. His stepmom was Helen V. Mattei. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

He was retired from Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority, where he made many close friends. In the late 70’s and 80’s, he was a DJ, where he enjoyed meeting people, playing music and using his comedic talents. His sense of humor and funny stories followed by his infectious laugh will be sorely missed. He was known as King of his Madden tournaments and threw great Super Bowl parties. His favorite phrase wore on his license plate for many years, “Bada Bing,” sums him up. “Uncle Bob” is survived by his nieces and nephews, Roger C. Mattei and wife, Kim, of Harpers Ferry, Lisa Mason and husband, John, of Shepherdstown, William “Billy” Mattei and wife, Stacy, of Summit Point and Michelle Mumaw and husband, Keith, of Charles Town; 10 great-nieces and nephews; and nine great-great-nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to his best friends, Pat Weaver and John Nelson, who have always been there for him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Roger C. Mattei, Sr. He was the last of his immediate family.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, June 10, at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, with Pastor Roger Wilburn officiating. Condolences may be expressed at www.eackles-spencerfuneralhome.com.
