John Furman Dopson
John Furman Dopson, 83, of Shepherdstown, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2016 at Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg.
Born Oct. 12, 1932 in Bolivar, he was the son of the late John Dopson and Ruth Caniford Dopson.
He was of the Baptist faith and a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War and stationed in Germany.
John was the owner of the J&D Club in Shepherdstown and an avid sports fan.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Beverly, at home; four sons, Stacy Dopson of Austin, Texas; David Rainey of Martinsburg; Michael Rainey of Martinsburg; and John Starliper of Indianapolis, Indiana; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, one brother, Danny Dopson and wife, Nancy of Austin, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. He is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Sharon Lyons and husband, Denny; Carol Hensler and Sandy Dopson.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Charlotte Rutherford and Lucille Daffara and two brothers, Bill Dopson and Don Dopson.
Services were held at 11 am on Thursday, July 7, at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, with Rev. Bill Long officiating. Interment was in Pleasant View Memory Gardens in Martinsburg.
