Harriet Virginia Leach Mudge
Harriet Virginia Leach Mudge, 92, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, at Brookdale in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Born December 10, 1923, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Earl Lester Leach and Jeannette McKee Leach.
She was a 1941 graduate of Martinsburg High School. She received her Associate Bachelor Degree in Social Studies and Commerce in 1949 from Shepherd College.
She was married to Dr. David Edward Mudge on Nov. 3, 1951 at Trinity United Methodist Church. As an active member of Trinity Methodist, Harriet sang in the choir, played piano, and taught Sunday school.
She was employed at the Old National Bank in Martinsburg from 1942 until 1954. She worked part time at Harry Fishers’ Jewelry Store, and was a Berkeley County School substitute teacher from 1961 through 1978, at which time her husband also retired as associate superintendent of schools.
She is survived by her son, Robert E. Mudge and daughter-in-law, Cathy, granddaughter; Samantha; grandson, David, as well as her life-long friend Norma Grant.
She was preceded in death by her husband David E. Mudge.
A “Celebration of Life Service” will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church on New York Ave., Martinsburg, with the Rev. John R. Yost officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, Inc. in Maryland.
