Mary Catherine Crum Harding
Mary Catherine Crum Harding, 89, of Shepherdstown, and formerly of Harpers Ferry, passed away Monday, Sept. 19, 2016, at Willow Tree Manor.
Born Sept. 20, 1927, in Harpers Ferry, she was the daughter of the late Robert Montgomery Crum and Caroline Sitha May Schwaigert Crum and the widow of Lester Warren G. Harding.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia L. Harding D’Angelo and husband, Paul; a grandson, Patrick L. D’Angelo; two sisters, Emma N. Crum Ware and Lucille E. Crum Reynolds; and seven brothers, Raymond Montgomery, William August, Eugene Lucas, Robert Olin, Charles Robert, Herbert Bernard, and Edward Briscoe Crum. She was the last of her immediate family.
Mary Catherine was retired as a cook from the Jefferson County Schools. She was a founding member of Gospel Chapel AOG Church in Harpers Ferry, where she served as organist and in other capacities, until she moved to Shepherdstown. She then attended New Hope/Crossroads AOG Church in Shepherdstown, where for several years she was the organist. She was a faithful member until her health declined. She loved to play Christian music and sing God’s praises. She made several recordings at local recording studios. She loved sharing her talents with folks in nursing homes and with shut-ins. She loved reading her Bible and was always willing to share God’s word with anyone.
Mary Catherine was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother and loved visiting and talking to other family at the annual reunions.
She is survived by her children, L. Monte Harding and husband, Bryan C. Rutherford-Harding, of Martinsburg, Eric G. Harding and wife, Susan, of Inwood and Robin A. Harding, of Kearneysville; nine grandchildren, Heather Crawford, Catherine and Heath D’Angelo, Jason, Joshua and Stephanie Harding, Tammy Miller, Tabitha Breeden and Devon Stanton; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, her special angels, her neighbors and friends.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, with Pastor Eddie Smith and Pastor James Smith officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Lutheran Cemetery in Bolivar.
