Gardner “Sam” Lee Stewart

Gardner “Sam” Lee Stewart, 73, of Harpers Ferry, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016, at the Hospice Inpatient Facility in Kearneysville.

Born Aug. 8, 1943, in Charles Town, he was the son of the late Franklin Gardner Stewart and Lillian Lee Custer Stewart.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Sam was a member of Christ Reformed Church in Shepherdstown.

Sam was an avid softball player and fan since a young boy. He loved vegetable gardening and especially helping others when in need.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Judith Ann Stewart, at home; one son, Steven Wayne Stewart and wife, Glenda, of Hedgesville; one grandson, Samuel Pierson Stewart; one brother, Timothy Stewart of Kearneysville; and numerous extended family members.

He was preceded in death by one brother, David Stewart.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Christ Reformed Church, East German St., Shepherdstown, with Pastor Gayle Bach-Watson officiating.
