Mary Elizabeth Writt Frazier
Mary Elizabeth Writt Frazier, 80, of Fairmont, passed away Friday, Dec. 30, 2016, at her residence.
She was born June 20, 1936, in Shepherdstown, daughter of the late Charles Curtis and Myrtle Costella Writt.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Allen Frazier, in 2010.
Mary was a Methodist by faith. She was a graduate of Shepherdstown High School, as well as a 1958 graduate of Shepherd College, with a degree in elementary education. She taught for three years in Shepherdstown, and later retired, with 37 years in the Florida education system. She taught primarily first grade, and specialized in reading at Nocatee Elementary in Arcadia, Florida. Mary was an excellent teacher, who was dedicated to all of her students, and helped them achieve their full potential. Her classes were often quick to fill up as she was often requested by parents to teach their children.
Mary enjoyed bowling, and had been a part of league bowling in the past. She made the “world’s best” carrot cake and was well known for baking them as gifts for friends and family. She loved playing ball with her fur baby, “Missy,” and was a huge Miami Dolphins fan.
Mary was devoted to her family. Her son, Ray, was the center of her world, and her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She and her husband moved to West Virginia upon their birth, to be a part of their daily lives. She loved being involved with her grandchildren’s activities.
Mary is survived by her son, Raymond, and his wife, Heather Frazier Jr., of Fairmont; her stepdaughter, Michelle Frazier of St. Petersburg, Florida; her grandchildren, Zachary and Brady Frazier, of Fairmont, Kim and her husband, Gary Cosner, of Keyser, David and his wife, Dani Martin, of Frederick, Maryland; and an honorary grandson, Jamal Womble, of Fairmont. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Summer Padgett, Brian Padgett, Troy Martin, Travis Martin, Trevor Martin and Justin Martin; brothers, Hartman Lowell Writt and John Henry Writt; several nieces and nephews; and her special fur baby, “Missy.”
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Donald Lloyd Writt and Curtis Neil Writt; and her sisters, Ann Estelle Mills and Myra Kennedy Martin.
Memorial donations may be made to Life United Methodist Church, 1564 Mary Lou Retton Drive, Fairmont, to be used towards their Partners in Education with Watson Elementary School, in order to continue her dedication of educating and caring for children.
A memorial service was held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, with the Rev. Larry Buckland officiating at the Ford Funeral Home, Fairmont. Private family interment of her cremated remains will take place at a later date.
