Ashton Brooke Lear
Ashton Brooke Lear of Shepherdstown, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017.
Born Nov. 18, 1998, Ashton was a homeschooled high school senior, a talented artist, writer, photographer and actress. She adored literature- an avid reader, Ashton read several hundred books each year.
In 2016 Ashton was named the winner for WV and National Finalist in the Doodle for Google educational scholarship contest, donating the books and materials that she won to the Shepherdstown Public Library.
Compassionate and kind, Ashton was there for others. She sponsored a child through Compassion International over the past five years, traveled to Haiti to assist with earthquake relief and to New Jersey, in 2013, to help those devastated by Hurricane Sandy.
Ashton was a beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend who will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her parents, Mr. John Gary Lear, Jr. and Mrs. Kirstin Lynn Marshall Lear; younger sister, Emerson Grace Lear; younger brother, Judah William Lear; grandparents, Dr. David Lynn and Mrs. Karen Sue Harr Marshall.
There are many things for which she will be remembered but what we will never forget is her love for her parents, sister and brother, family and friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m. at Saint Peters Lutheran Church, Shepherdstown.
