Virginia M. Willingham
Virginia M. Willingham, 92, of Kearneysville, died Sunday, Mar. 5, 2017 at Canterbury Center, Shepherdstown.
Born Feb. 5, 1925, in Charles Town, she was the daughter of Stormer O. and Mary Virginia Rouss Howell, of Charles Town.
While attending Kabletown School, she was awarded the Golden Horseshoe in 1939, given to eighth graders in recognition of their knowledge of West Virginia History. She was a 1943 graduate of Charles Town High School and a 1946 graduate of the nursing program at King’s Daughters Hospital in Martinsburg. A registered nurse, she was employed at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Martinsburg, from 1954 until she and her husband retired in 1984.
A lifelong member of Grace Reformed United Church of Christ, she was a member of the Women’s Guild, choir, and treasurer of the Sunday School for over thirty-five years. She was a volunteer with meals on Wheels, a member of NARFE, AARP, K.D. Hospital Alumnae, and enjoyed her weekly Bingo events at the Knights of Columbus with her sister and sister-in-law.
She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Eisenhart (Bill), Kearneysville; Anna Mary Walsh (Gary), Shepherdstown; three grandchildren, Paul W. Eisenhart, II (Glenda)l Eric Eisenhart (Angie); Corey Walsh (Kasey), and nine great-grandchildren, Britney Eisenhart; Kayla, Matthew, and Summer Van Pelt; Paisley Eisenhart; Madison Walsh; Violet Volkmann (Walsh); Erin Walsh; and Ava Gifft; and brother, Frank O. Howell (Shirley), and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Gilbert J. Willingham, Jr. who died Feb. 23, 1992; granddaughter, Madeline Elizabeth “Beth” Walsh; and sister, Alma Foley.
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Mar. 10, 2017 at Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Baker Heights followed by a Celebration of Life Services at noon at Grace Reformed United Church of Christ, Kearneysville with the Rev. David G. Beeson presiding.
