Jean Ann Elliott
Jean Ann Elliott, 84, of Shepherdstown, passed away Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017, at the Canterbury Center.
Born Jan. 18, 1933, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Howard Hoffman Elliott and Dorothy Jean Horn Elliott.
She was a 1950 graduate of Martinsburg High School; graduate of Shepherd College, Syracuse University, and Shippensburg University.
She had worked for Fairmont State College as assistant librarian, reference assistant with Pitt University Library, and Shepherd College and later the University.
Jean had traveled to all seven continents. She was very proud of her lineage society membership and service. NSDAR National Society Daughters of the American Revolution she proudly served as honorary state regent, state regent (State Regent during WVDAR Centennial conference and celebration), state treasurer during three different terms, past chapter regent and treasurer- Pack Horse Ford Chapter; her ancestors include George Horn, VA PS, Wendle Glaze, VA GRD, Martin Lynde, MD PS, and George Adam Ramsburg, MD CPL. National Society Children of the American Revolution (N.S.C.A.R.) she served as senior leader: Parliamentarian Henrietta Bedinger Lee Society. National Society Daughters of the American Colonists (NSDAC) she served as honorary national vice president for Life, past national librarian, past vice president- Blue Ridge Section, National Defense chairman, National Defense chairman Blue Ridge Section, honorary state regent, state regent, chapter regent-governor Norborne Berkeley Chapter and ancestor Philip Frederick Eichelberger of Pennsylvania. USD 1812 United States Daughter of 1812 having served as national chairman Veterans Affairs, past librarian national, honorary state president, state president, pastor president Captain James Gibson Chapter; and ancestor Pvt. Samuel Bast (Bost), MD. DCW Daughters of Colonial Wars serving as president in the State of West Virginia and ancestor Adam Ramsburg, MD. UDC United Daughters of the Confederacy member of Shepherdstown Chapter No. 128 ancestor John W. Clowser. She was a 50 year member of National Library Association, Alpha Beta Alpha- national executive secretary, life member of Jefferson County Historical Society, member of Martinsburg Eastern Star, Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority, member of First Presbyterian Church, Martinsburg, and Scarborough Society of Shepherd University, and Board of Directors.
She is survived by cousins, Max Mosse, Frank Shepherd, Nancy McClurge, Darlene Voorhees, Jack Moore Horn and Robert Mark Horn; and dear friend, Sally Ann Greenfield.
Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, March 17, at Brown Funeral Home with the Rev. John Yost and the Rev. Walter Bowers officiating.
