Mary P. Jones DeHaven
Mary Paxton Jones DeHaven, 91, passed away March 20, 2017.
She was born Jan. 1, 1926, to parents Mary and Paxton Marshall Jones, of Shepherdstown.
Mary was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 52 years, Donald; her brother, Charles Jones; and sister-in-law, Anna Lee DeHaven.
In 1947, Mary graduated from nurses training at King’s Daughters Hospital in Martinsburg, beginning her career as a Registered Nurse. She worked at KD during the last major polio outbreak and, while at the VA Hospital in Martinsburg, she took care of veterans who served in the Spanish American War to service men injured in World War II. In 1970, after taking a number of years off to raise her daughters, Mary returned to work in the ICU at Loudoun Memorial Hospital in Leesburg, Virginia. She retired from the Virginia Public Health Department in 1987, where she was a Home Health nurse treating patients throughout the length of Loudoun county. In addition to her Home Health nursing, she was one of the first hospice nurses in Loudoun County.
Mary was an accomplished seamstress, needlework artist, gardener and cook. The biggest surprise to herself and her family was her newly discovered ability to paint. At 87, Mary began taking art classes at Meadow Glen Assisted Living residence shortly after moving there. In addition, she was a lifelong animal lover and enthusiastic armchair birdwatcher.
Mary leaves behind a large and loving family: daughters, LuEllen DeHaven, Donna Bosshard (Loren), and Mary Lee Gladhill (Maurice); grandchildren, Leeann Bosshard Snyder (Zach), Sally Bosshard Zehrung (Morgan), and Marshall Gladhill (Angie); great- grandchildren, Madeline and Mason Gladhill; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will held at 11 a.m. Saturday April 1, 2017, at Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle SE, Leesburg, VA 20175.
A visitation will be held from 10 a.m.until the time of the services. Graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.
