Evelyn M. Hammer
Evelyn M. Hammer, a devoted mother and wife, 78 years old, of Kearneysville, died Monday, June 12, 2017, at Winchester Medical Center. She was the widow of Roy C. Hammer Sr., who died April 12, 2012.
She was born Oct. 30, 1928, in Elkton, Virginia, daughter of the late Lonnie A. Hensley and Iva V. (Meadows) Hensley.
Mrs. Hammer retired after a decade of service as a cook at Jefferson High School.
She was a member of Williams Memorial United Methodist Church.
She was a member of Women of the Moose Chapter 1028, Charles Town. She was a phenomenal cook, and loved to garden. Evelyn is finally reunited with her beloved Roy.
She is survived by sons, Roy C. Hammer and wife, Debbie, of Aiken, South Carolina, Michael K. Hammer and Shiela Castaldo, of Shepherdstown, and Bruce A. Hammer and Lori Heartlove, of Kearneysville; daughter, Dixie L. Gaynor and Jim McCarthy, of Gerrardstown; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Hensley, Linda Breeden, and Catherine Lamb, all of Elkton; and six brothers, Ronald Hensley of Shenandoah, Virginia, and Robert Hensley, Lonnie Hensley Jr., Randall Hensley, Steven Hensley, and Mark Hensley, all of Elkton. She is also survived by dear friends, Jeanne Avaritt, Jane Miller and Peggy Hendricks.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, June 15, 2017, at Williams Memorial United Methodist Church, 289 Potomac Avenue, Shenandoah Junction, with Dr. Parker Hinzman officiating. Interment will be at Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.
There will be no visitation.
