Winfield S. Fisher

Winfield Scott Fisher, born in McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania, on Nov 9, 1926, “Scott” was the eldest son of Hope Raker and Fred Stucky Fisher.

He was preceded in death by Jeanette Louise Fisher, on March 12, 2017; his loving wife of 64 years. They lived in Hustontown, Pennsylvania, for 35 years and were heavily involved within the community. Scott was a Sunday school teacher, layman and organist for the United Methodist Church. He was also an active member with the Volunteer Fire Company for over 20 years prior to moving to Ranson, in October 1996.

Scott has four children residing in West Virginia; Dean P. Johnston Jr. and wife, Judy, Kearneysville, Vincent F. Fisher, Ranson, Jan F. Fisher, of Martinsburg and Candace L. Bailey and son-in-law James, of Harpers Ferry. He also has six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Scott’s youngest and last surviving sibling, Frederica Saxton, lives in McConnellsburg. Scott was predeceased by his brothers, Sydney R. Fisher, of Carlisle, Pennyslvania, Benjamin W. Fisher, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania and Roger A. Fisher, of McConnellsburg.

Scott was raised in Mount Rose, Pennsylvania and attended Penn State University, until being drafted into the U.S. Army in February, 1945. During World War II he served as a combat engineer specializing in explosive ordnances at Ft. Belvoir. He was first deployed to Oahu, Hawaii then served on the USS Hancock off the island of Luzon, Philippines until the war ended in 1945. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned home spending a few years working as a farmer. Having a passion for the outdoors, he became employed with the Pennsylvania Department of Forestry and Agriculture. Then in the mid-50’s, Scott began his long career as a systems analyst at Letter- kenny Army Depot, Chambersburg. He retired in 1983.

Scott was a very dedicated family man who loved all kinds of word puzzles, listening to music, spending time with family and eating good food. He held a zest for life and in his earlier years, anything the outdoors could offer gardening, tending his orchard, hunting, fishing, and traveling. Scott was a kind-hearted sole and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Services to be held at M.R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown, Pennsylvania, on July 21, 2017, with the viewing at 11 a.m., followed by the funeral at 1 p.m.
