Lorna B. Frye

Lorna Benner Frye, 76, of Harpers Ferry, passed away Friday, Oct. 20, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.

She was a devoted wife, mother, and daughter and will be tremendously missed by those that knew and loved her.

Born Jan. 3, 1941, in Ranson, she was the daughter of Stanley Graves Benner I, of Shenandoah Junction and the late Naomi Cook Benner.

She received her degree in Home Economics and Health/Physical Education from Shepherd College (now University) in 1962 and received her Master’s Degree in Vocational Technical Education from Marshall University in 1987.

She touched thousands of lives within the county and aboard during her 30 years of teaching and being involved in the school system.

She taught at Charles Town Junior High School, Harpers Ferry Junior High School, and Jefferson High School and retired from the Jefferson County Board of Education in 2006.

She was a member of many organizations throughout her career such as the Delta Kappa Gamma, Adult Higher Education Alliance, West Virginia Home Educators Association, Tri-County Home Economics Association, National Education Association, and Home Economics Division of WVVA.

She received many accolades throughout her teaching career such as Outstanding FHA Chapter in West Virginia in 1988; Master Advisor Award FHA in 1990 and 1993; Jefferson High School Teacher of the Year in 1991-1992; and West Virginia Home Economics Teacher of the Year in 1994.

In addition to her father, she is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 56 years, Paul P. Frye Sr.; her children, Paula Lorayne McAteer (husband, Kevin), Lorna Charlene Bryan, Nana Lynn Frye, and Paul P. Frye Jr.; her grandchildren, Jean Lorayne McAteer, John Paul McAteer, Chad Linwood Bryan II, Chelsea Lorayne Bryan (fiance, Nick Zbikowski), and Thomas (Tommy) William Frye (wife, Kalynn); her great-granddaughter, Ella Lorayne Zbikowski; sister-in-law, Judy D. Benner; and niece, Jessica Gayle Benner.

She was of Lutheran faith.

She was preceded in death by her mother and brother, Stanley Graves Benner II.

Memorial service will be held at a later date. A private interment will be at Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
