Larry Drechsler
Lawrence “Larry” Gruenau Drechsler, 75, of Culpeper, Virginia died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018 at his residence. He was born Jan. 21, 1943 in Davenport, Iowa to Jo Seaman Drechsler and the late Carma Gruenau Drechsler.
Larry was born and raised in Davenport, Iowa. He graduated from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois with a bachelor’s degree in art, and then attended an art institute in Stockholm, Sweden. He returned to the U.S. and enlisted in the Army where he served as an artist during the Vietnam War.
He then lived in Shepherdstown, until he moved to Culpeper, Virginia in 1992, returning often to visits friends and undertake a variety of projects. He was a unique and talented man, having been an accomplished musician, concert pianist, painter, sculptor, wood worker and gourmet cook.
His life and work will be celebrated at a public memorial, Oct. 13 at 4 p.m. at The Train Station in Shepherdstown. Brief tributes in word or song are welcomed. A reception will follow.
