Frank L. Staro

Frank L. Staro M.D., 79, of Shepherdstown, passed away on July 23, 2020 from complications due to cancer.
Born in New York City on February 8, 1941, Frank grew up in Pittsfield, Mass. A University of Vermont graduate, he went on to study medicine in Bologna, Italy and graduated from Boston University School of Medicine. He completed his specialty training in Otolaryngology and Head Neck Surgery.
Staro was a highly regarded surgeon for over thirty years on Long Island, N.Y., where he was well loved and thoroughly enjoyed treating his patients. During his time on Long Island, he was a valued member of the medical and local communities, including the Moorings of East Islip where his love of life on the water was celebrated. He retired in 2006 and moved to Shepherdstown, where he and his then wife, Elisabeth, became very involved in the Shepherdstown community and his neighborhood Fernbank. He was an avid golfer and a long-standing member at the Club at Cress Creek. Frank was very proud of his Italian heritage and celebrated it through his love of family, friends, fine food and wine, and extensive travel.
Frank is survived by his wife, Loraine Strait, daughter Kimberly Staro-Dieckhaus and husband Tim, daughter Lisa Bosse and husband Jimmy, and daughter Laura Bruskin and husband Jonathan. He was the devoted grandfather to twins Max and Maya Bosse and Alex Bruskin.
Due to the pandemic, no service will be held at this time. Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the American Cancer Society.
