James D. Link

James Daniel Link, “Jimmy,” 94, of Charles Town, passed away Saturday, Nov. 21, 2020, at the Winchester Medical Center. Born May 7, 1926, in Duffields, he was the son of the late Samuel Wesley Link and Grace Lucinda Mills Link.

James graduated from Charles Town High in 1944, In that same year he joined the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1946. He attended Virginia Tech, WVU and graduated from Shepherd College in 1952. He was then employed by the National Institute of Health and later transferred to the Federal Food and Drug Administration, from which he retired in 1992. From 1975 – 1979 he was partners with his brother Sam and wife Donna in the B. & L. Children Shop in Sterling, Virginia. He was a member of St Thomas Lutheran Church and the Sons of the Confederacy. In the past he was a pilot and collected coins and stamps.

James is survived by two brothers, William Byron Link, of Fairfax, Virginia, and Samuel Wesley Link Jr, and wife, Donna, of Winchester, Virginia; and his sister, Frances Rebecca Owens, of Portland, Oregon, and a number of nieces and nephews. A great deal of appreciation is given to Joseph Walters, a nephew, for the many hours spent assisting James over the last 15 to 20 years. Thank You Joey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Samuel Wesley Link II and Lawrence Vincent Link and four sisters, Viola Eloise Edwards, Charlotte Marion Link, Hildred La Hue Frocke, and Betty Geneva Walters.

A graveside service with military honors was held on 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2020, at the Edge Hill Cemetery with the Pastor Diane Day officiating. Visitors must wear a mask and are asked to practice social distancing and follow directives. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be given to the Jefferson County Council for the Aging or to one of the military charities, e.g. Wounded Warriors, Disabled American Veterans, etc.
