James H. Myers

James “Jim” Howell Myers, 72, of Martinsburg, passed away Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, 2020, at Homewood of Williamsport.
Born Dec. 9, 1947, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Marion H. and Mary “Betty” Elizabeth Howell Myers.
He graduated from Martinsburg High School in 1965 and Shepherd College in 1969. He was employed by Berkeley County Schools as a Social Studies teacher at North Middle School for his entire, 36 year, career. During his tenure he was Berkeley County Teacher of the year in 1985. He also received the Excellence in WV Studies award in 1985. He taught 162 Golden Horseshoe winners throughout the years.
His love of history led him to travel worldwide and take his eighth grade students to Europe and Mexico. He also sponsored many children through the Children’s International Fund.
Jim was longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Martinsburg.
He is survived by his sister, Margaret A. Myers of Surfside Beach, South Carolina; cousin, Hal Cramer and wife, Ann, of Pasadena, Maryland; cousin, David Myers and wife, Reba of Winchester, Virginia; a loving friend whom he thought of as a sister, Barbara M. Ware; and dear friends, Renee Arant and Linda Campbell. He leaves behind his beloved cat, Bruno, who was graciously and lovingly adopted by Kelli and S.J.

Friends were received 4-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, 2020, at Rosedale Funeral Home. Funeral Services were held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2020, with Bishop Rick Farley officiating. Interment will follow in Rosedale Cemetery.
