Stanley G. Benner

Stanley Graves Benner, 101, of Shenandoah Junction, passed away Sunday, Jan. 17, at Canterbury Center in Shepherdstown.

Born Sept. 2, 1919, in Leetown, he was the son of the late Benjamin F. Benner and Edith B. (Fleming) Benner.

He was an engineer with the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company and retired in September 1979. After his retirement , he and his wife decided West Virginia winters were too cold and started traveling to Florida for the winters. In 1983, they bought a home in Lake Panasoffkee. After her death in 1992, he continued his winter travels. He loved Florida and his time there. He also enjoyed gardening and working outside. He was never one to sit still.

He is survived by his son-in-law, Paul P. Frye Sr.; daughter-in-law, Judy D. Benner; his grandchildren, Paula Lorayne McAteer, Lorna Charlene Bryan, Nana Lynn Frye, Paul P. Frye Jr., and Jessica Gayle Benner.; his great-grandchildren, Jean Lorayne McAteer, John Paul McAteer, Chad Linwood Bryan II, Chelsea Lorayne Zbikowski (husband, Nick), and Thomas (Tommy) William Frye (wife, Kalynn); his great-great-granddaughters, Ella Lorayne Zbikowski, Naomi Lynn Frye, and Auna Marie Jochum; and great-great grandson, Phoenix Nash Zbikowski.

He was of Methodist faith and attended the United Methodist Church in Shenandoah Junction.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Naomi Lorayne Benner; his children, Lorna Benner Frye and Stanley Graves Benner II; and his brother, Alfred F. Benner.

Service and interment will be private at the Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
