Donald W. Dawson

Donald Wayne “Donnie” Dawson, 74, of Middleway went to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, Feb. 15, 2021 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg.

He was born Feb. 2, 1947 in Charles Town. He was the son of the late Wayne Dawson and Katherine (Dunlap) Dawson, of Middleway.

He is survived by his wife of 51 ½ years, Beverly (Braithwaite) Dawson, at home; son, Galen Dawson and wife, Tina, of Martinsburg; two daughters, Donna Shipley and husband, Kenny, of Shepherdstown; Nicole Romano and husband, Bart, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; grandchildren, Ricky and Tyler Dawson, Adrianna Fleetwood (Duane), Courtney Anderson (Tre), Blaise Shipley, Ginny and Grayson Romano; great-grandchildren, Jayden, Kamdyn, Malaki, and Kaysen; mother, Katherine Dawson; sister, Pat Dawson; nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Dawson; granddaughter, Sofia Romano; brother, Gary Dawson and his grandparents.

Donnie was a life member of the Citizens Fire Department, where he joined in 1966. He also volunteered at Shepherdstown Fire Department. He was an active member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 948, Charles Town, an officer of the Potomac & Shenandoah Antique Tractor and Engine Club, and a board member of the Jefferson County Fair Board.

Donnie served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam where he received the following decorations, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Army Commendation Medal and the Marksman Badge (Rifle).

Donnie loved being with his family and friends. His grandchildren called him GRRR and they really enjoyed tormenting each other. He will be greatly missed by his family.

Donnie loved his tractors, whether they were lawn & garden or antique, and it didn’t matter if he was pulling them or just watching.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
