Robert W. Leblanc

Robert W. Leblanc, 86, passed away Feb. 14, 2021, at the Veterans Hospital in Martinsburg, WV. Bob was born, Sept. 10, 1934, son of Eva and Edgar Leblanc, in Dover, NH.

In 1954, Bob moved to New York City to pursue a career in theatre. From 1955 to 1961, he performed in summer Stock from Main to New Jersey. His winter’s involved acting off-Broadway, TV and touring in Musicals. One of his favorite roles was, “Tevye” in “Fidler on the Roof.” Bob portrayed “Tevye,” in eight different productions during his acting career. Bob spoke fondly of working with John Barrymore, Jr., Billie Burke, Rosemary Clooney, Sergio Francke, Shirley Jones, Ruby Keeler, and Alan Jones.

In 1962, Mr. Leblanc became co-founder, co-owner, producer and performer of the Rochester Music Theater in Rochester, NH, with co-partner, Charles Van Metre of Shepherdstown, WV. Together they produced nine musicals in nine weeks, each summer for 12 years. A professional, New York cast, was hired for each summer season.

Between 1965 and 1985, Mr. Leblanc spent many winters on cruise ships. First, as an entertainer, then promoted to Cruise Director/Entertainer. His travels included World Cruises, Grand S. Pacific, S. American European and Caribbean Cruises. He worked on several cruise lines; Norwegian American, Swedish American, Holland American, Sitmar, Royal Viking, Cunard, Royal Caribbean and Carnival.

In 1999, Mr. Leblanc joined Charles Van Metre, as co-owners/Inn Keepers, of the Inn at Antietam, Sharpsburg, MD. They operated the Inn for 17 years, totally retiring in 2016, at the age of 82 years.

They bought a home in Summerland Manor, and moved to Hagerstown, MD in Jan. 1, 2017.

Bob’s survivors include a sister Rose Bourgoine, Florida, and two niece’s and two nephew’s and Business Associate, Charles Van Metre.

Mr. Leblanc will be buried, at a later date, at his family plot in New Hampshire, with his parents.

The final curtain will close on the exciting career of a great guy-Bob Leblanc.
