George S. Hollida
George Shannon Hollida, 83, of Maurertown passed away after an extended illness on Saturday, April 24th 2021, at home.
George was born April 16, 1938 in Martinsburg, WV, the son of late George Reynolds and Virginia Brunk Hollida.
George is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Mary C. Hollida, daughters Laurie (Kenny) Thomas of Edgewater FL, Tammy (Noel) Weigel of Dublin, GA, and son Tony (Karen) Bauserman of Maurertown; grandchildren Jason (Jeannell) Thomas of Annapolis, MD, Joshua Thomas of Edgewater FL, Lauren (Michael) Lowery of Shrevesport LA, Matthew (Ranna) Weigel of Dublin GA, Paige Weigel of Dublin GA, Justin Bauserman of Winchester VA, Trevor Kerns of Maurertown VA, and great-grandchildren Payton, Ryder and Libby.
George was a graduate of Martinsburg High School, attended Shepherd College, then joined the U.S. Navy and served as a medic. Upon returning home from the Navy, George spent his working career in the apple industry, first at Musselman Apple in Inwood WV for 19 years as Production Assistant Manager, then retiring in 2003 after 23 years as Coordinator of Plant Operations for Bowman Apple in Mount Jackson VA.
George loved his family and friends, and had a special place in his heart for his dogs. He also enjoyed nature, especially bird watching and learning about all of God’s creatures.
George was a member of Zion Christian Church, Woodstock Moose #575, having served as governor and American Legion Post #199.
The family received friends on Tuesday, April 27, 6 to 8 p.m. at Valley Funeral Service, 14116 South Middle Road, Edinburg VA 22824.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 28, 11 a.m., Zion Christian Church, 364 Zion Church Road, Maurertown VA 22644. Burial followed the service in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Bemis, Dave Berry, Bob Dean, John Mihuc, Steve Palmerton, and Steve Taylor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Zion Christian Church Building Fund, c/o Cindy D. Wright, 364 Zion Church Road, Maurertown VA 22644. Arrangements are in the care of Heishman Funeral Service, Inc. and Valley Funeral Service Branch, bowman’s Crossing.
