Sarah A. Pasman
Sarah Ann (Dunn) Pasman, 84, of Martinsburg, WV passed away peacefully April 20, 2021 under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle at their Inpatient Facility. She was born June 21, 1936 in Mingo Flats, WV and was the daughter of the late John Henry Queen and Eliza Jane Hall Queen.
Sarah graduated in 1954 from Morgantown High School. She continued her education at West Virginia University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science and a then a Master’s degree in education. A lifelong educator, she began her teaching career at Petersburg High School, but she spent most of her career as a reading specialist at North Middle School in Martinsburg.
Sarah had many talents and hobbies including sewing, cooking, and reading. She was an expert seamstress and taught a class in tailoring for the Home Education Department at Shepherd University. Her love of cooking included collecting cookbooks and having her recipes published in several cookbooks. Most of her cooking she learned from her mother, and everyone remembers her talent for making homemade bread, hot rolls, and fried bread.
Most of all, Sarah was a devoted and loving mother to her two daughters, Laura and Lisa. Many fond memories were created in their home in Little Run Acres in Shepherdstown, WV. She was the quintessential neighborhood mom, and all the kids knew that if they showed up at just the right time, they would get some homemade pizza and Orange Julius. She would rather have her children at home than roaming out and about; so she gladly hosted her daughters’ friends at her home on a regular basis.
Sarah took up square dancing after her children grew up and joined the Panhandle Square Dance group in Martinsburg. That is where she met her husband, Jay and even had her wedding during one of their monthly gatherings.
She is survived by her daughters, Laura Dunn Rutherford (and husband Tim) of Owings Mills, MD and Dr. Lisa Dunn Poland (and husband Buzz) of Martinsburg, WV. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Kelsey Rutherford, of Ellicott City, MD, and her sisters, Betty Jo Wagoner of Martinsburg, WV and Mary Ellen McGraw (and husband Bruce) of La Quinta, CA, in addition to several nieces and a nephew.
She is preceded in death by her husband Jay Pasman, and her brother David Lee Queen.
A private graveside service will be held for immediate family. Condolences may be left at www.RosedaleFuneral.com
