Roger Charles Mattei Jr.

May 7, 2021

Roger Charles Mattei, Jr., 63, of Harpers Ferry, WV, went to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at Winchester Medical Center.

Born Oct. 3, 1957 in Miami, FL, he was the son of the late Roger Charles Mattei, Sr. and the late Marion Edweena Taylor Mattei.

He was of the Christian faith.

Roger was a graduate of Jefferson High School, class of 1976. Early on, he worked at the Charles Town Race Track as a chef for the Harry M. Stevens Company, and later owned several race horses. He was the owner and operator of Tri-State Tree Service and was a member of Citizens Fire Company. He was formerly the proud owner of Kim’s Market in Millville.

Roger blessed so many people in his lifetime and was loved by so many in the community. He never met a stranger and always greeted you with “Hey Now” or “Hey Brother.” Disney was his happy place.

Roger would share his faith in Jesus whenever the conservation cracked open the door, even just a little.

Though we grieve, it is important to remember that Roger would have us find solace in this: he arrived in Heavenexactly on time.

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Kimberly Ann, at home; one son, Roger Charles Mattei, III and wife, Aimee of Windermere, FL; six grandchildren; two sisters, Lisa Mason and husband, John of Shepherdstown and Michelle Mumaw and husband, Keith of Charles Town; one brother, William Mattei and wife, Stacy of Charles Town; special aunt, Sandy Shatney and husband, Stan; three sisters-in-law, Carrie Harder Muck, Chelsea Harder and Sharon Kidwiler and husband, Wilbur; four brothers-in-law, Ronnie Harder and wife, Georganna, Jerry Harder and partner, Lil, David Harder and wife, Joyce, and Jeff Harder; two special friends, John McDermott and Dennis Dillow and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Virginia Slusher; uncle, Robert Mattei; nephew, Ryan Mumaw and dear friend, Peggy Dillow.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at the Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV with the Rev. Bucky Chapman officiating. The family received friends 6-8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, with a prayer vigil at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday with Deacon Dave Galvin officiating.
