Michael W. Carey

Michael Wayne Carey, 60, of Shepherdstown, passed away Monday, May 10, 2021, at the West Virginia University Hospital in Morgantown. Born July 22, 1960, in Charles Town, he was the son of Mildred Marie Keyes Mason and the late Randie E. Mason.

Michael was of the Pentecostal faith. He loved car races, especially Jimmy Johnson #48, pitching horseshoes and the Washington Football Team. He was a self-employed brick and block layer and had also worked with William A. Hazel.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his companion of 20 years, Sharon Kay Hamilton, of Martinsburg, and four sisters: Debra Arkum, and companion Gary Hatfield, of Martinsburg, Belinda Engle, and husband Samuel, of Halltown, Tammy Engle, and husband Todd, of Martinsburg, and Lori Ann Fincham, and companion Mike Fraley, of Charles Town.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Roger Lee Carey.

A funeral service was held 2 p.m. Sunday, May 16, 2021 at the Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Mary Wilson officiating. Interment will be private. The family received friends 6-8 p.m. Saturday, at the Chapel.

Visitors will be required to wear face masks, practice social distancing, and follow directives.
