Sandra W. Butts

Sandra (Nellene) Walter Butts, 87, of Shepherdstown, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2021 at Hospice of the Panhandle with her family by her side.

Born Oct. 24, 1934 in Martinsburg. She was the daughter of the late Regina Butts. She lived in Martinsburg with her mother, sister and grandparents. In 1954 she married Lyle and in 1960 they built and still live in this home.

She is survived by her husband, Lyle, two sons, Scott Lyle and Curt Walter, her sister, Patty Ring and husband, Bill Ring. She also had several nieces, grand nieces and nephews.

Graduated in 1952 from Martinsburg High School and later in 1977 from Shepherd College (University). While working in Shepherds Business office she started her college experience. In 1975 she became a McMurran Scholar and was on the Deans List for Students many times. In 1977 she received her B.A. in Social Studies. This she was very proud of.

During her life time she was a bank secretary, school librarian at Hedgesville Middle School, antique dealer, restaurant owner, loving mother, wife, great companion and a very best friend.

With Lyle, her sister, Patty and her husband, Bill Ring they spent many years together in the antique and restaurant businesses.

Her many interests included collection of dishes, baskets, teddy bears, dolls (Barbies), sewing items and Statue of Liberty items. She also did quilting, basket making and other things she became interested in.

She was proceeded in death by her mother, very much loved half-brother, Craig Butts, step-father, Sherwood “Shep,” “Maggie” Butts and grandparents.
