Joyce E. Hiett

Joyce Elizabeth Holden Hiett, 83, of Lake City, FL peacefully departed this life to be with the Lord Jesus Sunday, July 18, 2021 in Inwood, WV.

Born May 17, 1938 in Caroline County, MD she was the daughter of the late Fredrick Addison Holden and Margaret Angeline Mathews Holden of Washington D.C.

Joyce was a graduate of Shepherd College where she met her husband Verne. They were married Aug. 31, 1963. They shared a wonderful life together making their home in northern Virginia, then the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, and spent their retirement years in Florida. Joyce quickly made friends wherever they went and enjoyed being part of the ladies Bible study in her church. Always ready to travel, she visited all 50 states, many countries in Europe, and toured Israel. Joyce was devoted to her family and would instinctively set aside her own activities when there was an opportunity to care for the needs of her husband, children, or dear friends.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Verne Dow Hiett; one son, Brian Hiett of Martinsburg; one daughter Amy Hiett of Inwood; one grandson Nicolas Hiett, and one sister Beverly Holden of Lake City, FL.

Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at Brown Funeral Home of Martinsburg with Pastor Van Marsceau and Dr. Tom Tribelhorn officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Casual attire is welcomed.

Interment was in the old Enon Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Largent, WV following the service.
