Terif C. Young

Terif “Terry” Costen Young, 84, of Shenandoah Junction, West Virginia passed away July 23, 2021 at Canterbury Center, Shepherdstown, West Virginia. Terif was born Sept. 25, 1936 in Hagerstown, Maryland. He was the son of the late James Thomas Young and Thelma Bowman Young.

Mr. Young was a graduate of Johns Hopkins University, where he obtained baccalaureate degrees in Civil and Mechanical Engineering. He retired as an Electrical Engineer with the US Department of Defense. Before that he worked as a science teacher at Hedgesville High School, in Hedgesville, WV and as a licensed land surveyor.

Terif attended Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church and was a United States Airforce veteran. He was a lifelong learner and world traveler. Terif was passionate about opera, musicals, and theatre. In addition, he loved literature, history, astronomy and especially trains.

Mr. Young is survived by two sons; Christopher Young and wife Marla of Uvilla, David Young and wife Rachel of Shepherdstown, and daughter Katherine Young, a resident of Shenandoah Junction. He was preceded by his loving wife of 52 years, Mary Buchanan Young.

Family will receive friends at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home 10-11 a.m. Friday, July 30, 2021. A Celebration of life service will be held afterwards at 11 a.m. with Dr. Henry Christie officiating.
