Russell W. Dearing

Russell W. Dearing, 89, of Martinsburg, went on to his eternal reward on Sept. 20, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his family, and under the care of Hospice and his family after a brief non-Covid related illness. Russell was born Feb. 13, 1932, in Martinsburg, WV. He graduated from Martinsburg High School in 1951 and attended Shepherd College. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Judith Dearing, who passed away Sept. 3, 2016. He was also preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy Andrew Dearing and Ethel Marie Fowler Dearing, a brother, Robert Wayne Dearing; and a sister, Mary Lorraine Jenkins.

Russell was an avid and well recognized sports player, having played basketball for Martinsburg High School & Shepherd College and baseball for the Westphal #5 Fire Hall baseball team in the 1940’s. He was retired from the Martinsburg General Motors plant, where he worked for more than 25 years as a Security Guard. He was also an Air Force veteran, and was a police officer in Chambersburg, PA from 1962 to 1968. Russell was a member of Winchester Avenue Christian Church for over 40 years, where he was Deacon Emeritus. He was also a member of the local Moose Club and American Legion.

Russell is survived by 5 children: Jeffery (and Linda) Dearing, Teresa M. “Terry” Lambert (and Tom Donnelly), Dennis Dearing (and Kathy Laing), Trent (and Sandy) Dearing, and Derick Dearing (and Walter Golden). He is also survived by his brother, Douglas Dearing, as well as 6 grandchildren: Spencer Dearing, Justin (and Angela) Dearing, Jennifer Mikaily, Nicole (and Ricky) Lucas, Colton (and MaryBeth) Stonebraker, Dustin (and Ashley) Dearing, along with 7 great grandchildren: Jonathan Mikaily, Madison Mikaily, Gaige Stonebraker, Jack Stonebraker, Easton Dearing, Layla Dearing, and Lydia Dearing, along with numerous nieces, nephews and countless friends.

A memorial celebration of life took place 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021 at Winchester Avenue Christian Church in Martinsburg with Pastor Dan Ricketts officiating. Interment will be private and is being handled by Rosedale Cemetery. Please follow CDC guidance and appropriately social distance during the service.
