Daniel S. McGown

Daniel Scott McGown “Lt. Dan”, 53, of Gerrardstown, passed away Monday, Sept. 27, 2021 at Willow Tree while under the care of Hospice.
Born Sept. 27, 1968 in Martinsburg, WV he is the son of Willard D. “Huck” McGown and the late Wanda Lee Kees McGown.
Dan was a 1986 graduate of Martinsburg High School, attended Shepherd College and Marshal University. He was an active member of the FOP Lodge #83, and the WV State Deputy Association. He was the Valedictorian with the State Police Academy Class #85.
Lt. Dan began his career in law enforcement with the Maryland Correctional Center, then moved on to Frederick County Sheriff’s Office until he returned to serve Berkeley County from 1992-2018 with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department. He served Berkeley County as a Patrol Deputy, Criminal Investigator, Patrol Supervisor, Court Security Deputy, Personal Protection Officer to former Judge Chris Wilkes; and former member of the Berkeley County Deputy Sheriff Honor Guard.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Sue Ann Snapp McGown; two daughters, Alex Plum (Dawson ) of Androver, KS, and Emmie McDonald (Justin) of Hedgesville; one son, Chris Jenkins of Martinsburg; two grandsons, Liam and Gabriel Plum; one granddaughter, Ryley McDonald; two sisters, Linda “Susie” Johnson (Jimmy) of Alexandria, VA and Bonnie Viands (Emory) of Crab Orchard, KY; three dear friends, Bill and Cheryl Harper, Kirsten Foster all of Gerrardstown; and four furry children, Jay, Harry, Pearl, and Tessa.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, Rick McGown.
Celebration of Life service will be held 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8, 2021 at the Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood with Pastor Bobby Fraley officiating. Family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be private. Memorial Honors will be provided by the Berkeley County Deputy Sheriff Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Berkeley County Humane Society, 554 Charles Town Road, Martinsburg, WV 25405.
