Emma V. Kerns

Emma Virginia Kerns, 82, of Charles Town, passed away Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021, at her home while surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Hospice. She was the last of her immediate family. Born Jan. 6, 1939, in Ranson, she was the daughter of the late George Washington McDaniel and Carrie Lee Donivan.

Emma was of the Baptist faith. She was a wonderful and loving, yet feisty, mother who never met a stranger. She was loved by all who knew her. She was a great cook.

She is survived by 1 son: Ricky Crum, and wife Jessica, of Martinsburg; 3 daughters: Sheila Holmes, and husband Johnny, of Charles Town, Rita Crum, of Harpers Ferry, and Candy Darlene Spence, also of Charles Town; 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Jackson Kerns, Sr; 4 brothers: Charles, Howard, Alfred, and Robert McDaniel; 4 sisters: Margaret Long, Anna Leightner, Thelma Virginia Hinton, and Rosie Mae Swachback, and 2 grandsons: Ricky Lee Crum, Jr., and Edward Spence.

A funeral service was held 1 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 16, 2021, with the Chaplain Tony Pirrone officiating. Interment will be in the Uvilla United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., Wednesday at the Chapel.
