Douglas P. Newell

Douglas Paul Newell, 68, of Inwood passed away on Monday, Feb. 7, 2022 at Jefferson Medical Center.

Born April 18, 1953 in Martinsburg, WV he was the son of the late Robert Newell and Lula Redman Newell.

He graduated from Martinsburg High School in 1971. He attended Shepherd College. He retired from WV Department of Corrections. He loved sports and coaching Midget League Football, coaching for the Special Olympics and had become a job coach for those with challenges. He was an avid Cowboys fan.

He was blessed to receive a donated kidney and experience God’s healing firsthand. He wasn’t ashamed to speak about God’s goodness. Sharing the love of the Lord became his life’s purpose.

He loved music, taking pictures and spending time with nature.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Robert Hammond Newell, Jean Newell Green and Leroy Newell, Sr.

He leaves to cherish his memory all the nieces and nephews of his siblings, Cynthia Washington, Michael Waller, Karen Newell, Kim Newell Lott, Larry Lincoln, Kirk Newell, Leroy Newell, Jr., Yvonne Ballard, Queenie Washington, Wayne Smith, Vernell Sidberry and Jackie Harmon; and a host of great nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Robin Leigh among his host of friends.

Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, 2022 at Brown Funeral Home with Pastor Tyrone Lockett. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
