Elizabeth E. Senseney
Elizabeth Ellen “Lib” Senseney of Charles Town, West Virginia passed away at age 97 at Jefferson Medical Center on Feb. 15, 2022.
Mrs. Senseney was a devoted mother and homemaker. She graduated from James Madison College with an Associate Certificate in Education. Lib was a faithful member of the Zion Episcopal Church and served on the Altar Guild. She served on the Board of Directors at the Old Opera House, was a member of the Jefferson Co. Historical Society, the Shenandoah Garden Club, and the Jefferson Co. Garden Club. Lib enjoyed cooking, gardening, flower arranging, sewing, playing cards and entertaining but her greatest joy was her family. Her motto in life was “Just Keep Moving.”
She is survived by her children William E. Senseney (partner Angie Sosdian) and James M. Senseney, both of Charles Town, Renee S. Lowe (husband John Lowe) of Shepherdstown and Martha Ellen Senseney of West Hollywood California; five grandchildren: Troy Hill, Celine Senseney, Oakley-Raine Shepherd, Sage Lowe, Sarah Lowe and Jesse Lowe; nine great-grandchildren: Caleb Lowe, Peyton Bell, Gunner Lowe, Brylee Durso, Dominic Cardello, Coryn Shepherd, Sydney Shepherd, Emma Hill, and Dylan Hill; and her goddaughter Susannah Buckles.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years James Ellsworth Senseney, her second husband of 6 years James Gander, her brother Shirley Augustus Modisett and her foster sister Dorothy Lowe Campbell.
Funeral services will be held at the Zion Episcopal Church, 301 East Congress Street Charles Town on 1 p.m. Feb. 25, 2022 with Father Dean Lawrence officiating. The Church requests masks be worn. Burial will immediately follow at Edge Hill Cemetery in Charles Town.
Family will be receiving friends at the Zion Episcopal Church on Friday prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Zion Episcopal Church or the Zion Episcopal Churchyard Fund at 221 East Washington Street, Charles Town, WV 25414, the Citizens Fire Company at 245 Citizens Way, Charles Town, WV 25414, or the Old Opera House at 204 N. George Street, Charles Town, WV 25414.
