Wilson Hopewell

Wilson Hopewell transitioned from this earth on February 2, 2022.
In the lower Shenandoah Valley along the Potomac River lays the oldest town in West Virginia, Shepherdstown. And on Sunday, January 15, 1928 our beloved Wilson Hopewell was born.
His parents were Ada Smith Hopewell and James “Jim” Hopewell. Wilson is one of six Hopewell children, James Morrison Hopewell (Munchie), Almira Luvenia Hopewell Lane, Eunice Christine Hopewell Phillips and Angela Maple Hopewell Ivory, all who preceded him in death, and Helen Jo Hopewell Brown, who still lives to treasure his memory.
After being educated in the Jefferson County school system, Wilson Hopewell was ready for adventure. It is rumored that even before his 18th birthday, he signed up to serve in the United Stated Army. In service to his country, he had quite the adventure. He and his family traveled extensively and lived in many U.S. states and several different countries. He retired from the United States Army with 21 years of service.
But even after retirement, this veteran had just begun to live. After his Army career, he worked his way up to regional manager of the Radio Shack organization, and went on to be employed there for 35 years.
His technical expertise in electronics and the drive to rehabilitate all things electronic filled his blood stream. radios, televisions, eight-track tape players, cassette players, printers and computers, you name it, Wilson Hopewell could fix it. Even after he retired from the Radio Shack organization, this entrepreneur started his own business, Galaxy International, through which he continued to repair, rebuild, further his education and show his brilliance in the electronic field.
Wilson Hopewell, a great father, brother, uncle and friend, was well thought of by his sisters, their husbands, his brother, sister-in-law and their families. It was no secret that his siblings held him in high esteem. He was a great pillar and example of stability within the entire Hopewell family. Wilson Hopewell, with his super-sized heart, never met a stranger and will always be remembered for his beautiful smile.
Wilson Hopewell is father to four children: Terry, Denise, and Sharlene Hopewell, that live to continue his legacy and Derwin Hopewell, who preceded him in death.
For the past 30 years, Wilson has had the joy of sharing his life with his wife of almost 25 years, Joyce Hopewell. It was their delight watching grandchildren be born, grow up, mature and spread their wings in life. God granted Wilson Hopewell the gift of 94 years of life on this earth, and a life well lived is the gift that he leaves behind.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, one brother, his children’s mother Julia Hopewell, son Derwin, three brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
He is cherished and survived by wife Joyce, his children, Terry, Denise, Sharlene Hopewell, daughters Sherry Henry, (George) Regina Brown, sister Helen Jo Brown, 15 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, a host of loving nieces and proud nephews, numerous family members and a multitude of friends.
