Rosalee Talley

Peace and comfort came to Rosalee (Carter) Talley, 99, on April 10, 2022 at Hospice of the Panhandle Inpatient Facility, Kearneysville, after a long battle with dementia.

Rosalee was born Feb. 9, 1923 in Middleway, WV to the late Christian D. Carter and Daisy D. (Dailey) Carter. She was the oldest of 10 children, growing up in Moler’s Crossroads. She resided in the Shepherdstown area for her entire life. She will forever be remembered for all the beautiful special occasion cakes she made for the Shepherdstown area.

She attended Shepherdstown schools. She was a member of Bethesda Methodist Church in Moler’s Crossroads and, later in life, attended New Street United Methodist Church in Shepherdstown with her daughter.

She married her sweetheart, the late John Kenneth Talley, on December 18, 1946. They had 54 wonderful years together. Together, they had their only child, Judith (Talley) Penwell (Terry). They also had one grandchild, Julia “Kat” Penwell Hughes (Christopher) and two great-grandchildren, Annette and Fiona Hughes.

Rosalee leaves behind her sisters Anna Louise Moler and Betty, Gladys, and Christine Carter. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and her beloved dog Cocoa.

She is proceeded in death by her brothers William, Russell, and Robert Carter, and her sisters, Dorothy Hott and Jean Leatherman.

Services was held 11 a.m. Monday, April 18, 2022 at the Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Ranson, with the Rev. Dee Ann Dixon officiating.

Interment will be in the Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.
