David J. Humphreys

David J. Humphreys, 86, of Martinsburg, W.V., died peacefully at the Hospice of the Panhandle on May 12, 2022.

Born in Jan. 1936 to David and Josephine Humphreys, he grew up in the Washington/Baltimore area and attended the Catholic Seminary until his graduation from college.

Dave was employed by Kraft Foods as a salesman, while he completed law school at Catholic University. After practicing law for several years, Dave became President and General Counsel for the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA).

In 1972, Dave met a young widow, Peggy Sills. They were married on Aug. 11, 1973. Peggy had a son whom Dave adopted and raised as his own. Peggy was the “love of his life” and together they had two sons and two daughters.

He leaves behind 10 children; Celia, Kathleen, Mary, Theresa, Monica, Douglas, Justin, Brian, Casey, and Molly. He also leaves behind 23 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Dave was an avid model airplane hobbyist, and took up flight training at age 60. He had several planes of his own including a vintage Waco in which he performed aerobatics. He enjoyed golf, tennis, sailing, and driving draft horses with a carriage and sleigh. He will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, presence, problem-solving ability, work ethic and love of his family.

Arrangements have been made through Harman Funeral Home, Hagerstown, MD.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. May 28, 2022, at Trinity Episcopal Church, Shepherdstown, WV. A reception will follow.
