Richard D. Godfrey

The Reverend Richard D. Godfrey, 82, of Kearneysville passed away Thursday, May 26, 2022 at his residence under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.

He was born May 4, 1940 in Erie, PA. He was the son of the late Donald V. Godfrey and Beatrice (Keith) Godfrey.

Richard retired as a Clergyman Pastoring at New Hope Assembly of God in Shepherdstown and several other churches in PA, WV, Virginia and Maryland.

He was a graduate of Girard High School, Girard, PA class of 1958, Erie Business College, Erie, PA and Western, PA Bible Institute, Butler, PA.

His three passions in life were his Loving Family, ministering to others, and dirt track racing.; whether it be watching the races or his driving a dirt track racing car off and on till the age of 70.

He is survived by his wife Glenna M. (Steel) Godfrey; daughters, Tina M. Phillips and husband Tom, of Sykesville, MD, Kimberly A. Himes and Brian, of Knoxville, MD, sons, Donald R. Godfrey and wife Kimberly, of Kearneysville, Dennis P. Godfrey and fiancée Megan, of Virginia; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and beloved dog “CoCo”

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Patricia Shaffer and Gloria Shatto.

Services was held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 30, 2022 at the Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Ranson with The Children of The Rev. Richard Godfrey officiating.

Interment was in Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town.
