Dorothy Jean Grantham

Dorothy Jean Grantham 89 of Shepherdstown, West Virginia, passed peacefully at her home on June 14, 2022. She was born on July 7, 1932 to the late Charlotte Devonshire Jackson and the late Harry Basey. Dorothy was raised by her grandfather, the late John “Jack” Staley, whom she called her Daddy.

Dorothy was a lifetime member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, where she served as chairperson to the staff-parish relations committee; she served as an usher, a youth choir coordinator, an acolyte coordinator, communion steward, wedding coordinator, and she was the custodian at the old Asbury Church located on High Street. Dorothy also had a variety of jobs: she worked for Shepherd College, Potomac Supermarket, various babysitting jobs and catering.

Dorothy is survived by her six children: Wanda Smith, Vickie Ford, Karen Green, Jacqueline Grantham, William Grantham and Cindy, and Judy Ann Grantham; nine grandchildren: RC, John Marshall, Kevin, Michael, Travis, Tracey, Allen, Will, Justin; eighteen great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and grandfather, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband William “Billy” Grantham, her sister Mary “Sissy” Brooks, her special friend Clifford Branson, and her god-daughter Velda Clark Spencer.

Dorothy was well known and loved in her community.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 24, 2022 at Asbury United Methodist Church. At 10:00am family viewing, 11:00am funeral service with the Reverend Rudolph Brodeh officiating.

Interment with take place at Pleasant View Memory Gardens in Kearneysville, West Virginia.
